Today teh plan is to do laundry and in the process find things i can pack away and also to find the coat i am to wear this weekend.
In other news, we are planning on heading over to baltimore for shore leave, which is a semi local convention for sci fi stuff. I think some folks from stargate atlantis will be there.
also, has anyone noticed that scifi has changed their name to syfy...idiots. that is so dumb.

I applied to 5 jobs today. So that makes a total of like...10, 11? something like that. I bet they all say no, too. The only problem with job searching is you apply and forget you have applied and then they finally get back to you like a month later. SIGH! I wanna know right now whether I am to be employed or not!! *stamps foot on floor and pouts*
In other news, I have a meeting with the jewish archives archivist on thursday, so that is good. I am looking forward to getting to see how things are run, and hey, if i don't get in to this program at pitt i will apply for curratorial degrees or something. we'll see
i have decided i like the show royal pains, it amuses me. I like the physicians associate character, she is interesting.

Hello all, long time no post. Well, I am shamelessly trying to find work and housing here in Pittsburgh so if anyone knows of a full time position that might help to pay rent or of a place that allows dags to pay rent at, let me know! Also, Andrea, check your facebook, I left a message for you on there and am just too lazy to repeat it here.
Sigh, in other news I either have a huge cavity or I chipped my tooth and my dental and regular insurance expires the 1st of july. and my car has no break fluid for some reason. jobs? houses? money? food?
Meh

What does it mean when people who you think are friends only want to see you once a month because it is convenient for them and get angry and pissy at you for being sick when you do not want to go to a live performance and have coughing fits. I don't know, maybe it is me or maybe it is them or maybe both. i just feel like since i live farther away i am not convenient to be friends with. who knows, i just never seem to have luck with friends. i am always the convenient one. sigh....

Why, why, why must i be forced to be a windows drone in order to pay an electric bill? for the past week i have been trying to pay my power bill online like i have been for two years now. well get to the second to last page where you approve everything you have typed and then say yes, you will pay the online fee. Usually, one you hit the yes, the authorize button lights up so you can push and move on with your life. however, this has not been happening in the last week. Everytime i went on to pay, the authorize wouldn't light up. I thought it was just a problem with the site or the the network or something, but after trying a few times over the week i finally called the company that runs the payment thing for the power company. I got told that the company that runs the site was just told that nothing could be authorized on any web server other than internet explorer. What the hell? I told the woman it ha worked just fine for my firefox using ass for two years now and she said that this has just happened. And i ask why? Because goodness knows it is not for security reasons, if it was, than they would be happy to accept everything BUT internet explorer. Hello, where do you think most of the computer viruses live? Sigh, so it is obvious that microsoft has bullied another company into only using their glitchy crappy web server. assholes!!

I am disgusted by the American People.
As the majority of the people of this country just elected a president who promised change, I mistakenly thought that meant progressive change, not backsliding down this hill of injustice. It seems that while, as a nation, we celebrate the election of the first black president, we are also taking the rights away from a group of people for no other reason than it is against the religion of some other people.
How is it anyone's business who marries whom and who has children? Because apparently many Americans have decided that it is their responsibility to determine just that. They say that just because you may love someone who has the same body parts as you, you will not be allowed to marry or adopt children.
Now, I remember my history class in high school. And, this situation seems eerily familiar. The government imposing laws against marriage and adoption because of religious and cultural prejudices. It was not that long ago in American history when a black person and a white person could not get married or adopt children in this country. It was not so long ago that black men where lynched for nothing more that dating a white woman; that black people where beaten and spit on in back allies for doing nothing but existing.
The Civil Rights Movement did great things for the rights of black people in America. The nation rose up against injustice and spoke in one voice for equal rights. It was finally decided that these laws were not constitutional and there was no reason, except individual prejudices, for whites and blacks to not live however they saw fit.
Now we are 50 years beyond the marches and boycotts and sit-ins. We have elected a black man to be the next commander and chief of this country. Somewhere, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. is smiling down on this nation. But while we have overcome the injustices of the past, we create new ones for the future. Why is it an inspiring and serious thing to read Uncle Tom's Cabin or watch films of people being blasted by fire hoses, when a movie ultimately about the murder of a young man who loved another man is made into a joke?
The example here is Broke Back Mountain. It has been made fun of over and over but I have not heard very much about the ending of the movie. People have made the plot of the movie a running joke about men loving men and how awkward that is in society. However, that is where the publicity ends for the movie. Very few discussions of the film have involved the ending, where one of the characters is brutally murdered for being nothing more than different. How is the message of this movie, then, any different in overall concept than How to Kill a Mockingbird? While the plots are different, the main thesis of both films are about people being persecuted for being considered abominations in the eyes of popular society.
So we come again to the recent election and the dichotomy of electing a president in a culmination of progressive civil rights and many states electing to take rights away from gays and lesbians. Again, as with the laws fought by the Civil Rights Movement, we have enacted laws that are generated because of personal prejudices and religious fanaticism. Recent commercials supporting these unconstitutional laws claimed that allowing two people of the same sex to get married would mean that children would have to learn about it in schools. I can recall no time when marriage of any kind was really brought up when I was in school. Why should this be any different.
But marriage is not the only issue these new laws address. They have also, in some states, banned same sex adoption. At least one state going so far as removing children already placed in homes to be put in foster homes for the time being. This is basically the same issue as in the film Losing Isiah with Halle Berry. While the recent controversy is not a race issue, the point is the same. In the movie, the natural mother of Isaiah is denied the right to raise the child because the court believes the child will have a better future with white parents. While the children in question here are not connected biologically to their same sex parents, they are naturally linked to their parents. The new laws take these children away from so called "unfit" parents to be placed with parents who are deemed better. Parents who will provide the proper future for these children.
The government has no right to remove children from their homes or deny unions of two people who love each other. the argument against marriage has been the sanctity of that word. What sanctity? With a divorce rate of at least 50 percent, straight marriages are not sanctifying anything. Why not let two people who are honestly committed to each other be equal in the eyes of the law as two drunks who go to Vegas on a whim? Why not let two people raise a child whom they will love and be thankful for when many children of straight couples get neglected and abused?
Love is love no matter who is giving and receiving that love. The government has no place in regulating that. They had no business in the 60's and the same is true now. Nor should it even be an issue up for election by the people. Under the constitution, all citizens of this country have the right to liberty and the pursuit of happiness. That includes marriage and raising children.
I am disgusted by the American people for celebrating the progress of one minority while making light of, and furthering the plight of another. Those people that have voted for these unconstitutional laws ought to be ashamed of themselves. And, if as the Bible says, we are all G-d's children, then those people who ave voted for these laws are only hurting themselves and the future.

patrick is at work today so i get to spend all day with a sleepy dog. which is fine. cuz otherwise she is trying to figure out ways to burry her treats in the laundry. lordy, she is nuts. she needs her rabies shot this week so i am trying to schedule a time when we both can take her in. she will not be happy with us as she hates the vet, but oh well.
we had the first thunderstorm of the year last night! yay! i love thunderstorms. i used to stand on the porch at home when i was little and watch the storms from there. you could see all the power and beauty and smell the wet earth and it was a very surreal and humbling experience every time. also i like to hear the rain as i am falling asleep. it is very calming.
let's see, anything else.....no, i don't think there is anything else right now..

Hello everyone, i know my sister has been at me to update. and i know prolly you all have stopped reading my journal here. truthfully, i ahven't read anyone elses in forever. sorry, i just haven't felt like getting on here and doing so.
In any case, i felt that i should post now as i guess i need a place to put my feelings and such. well, a very dear and beloved teacher of mine from highschool passed away on wednesday. i did not find out til tonight when i was invited to join a memory group for him on facebook. i was and still am pretty upset about it. he was an awesome person and teacher and i really respected him for all teh love and energy he put in to the students and the school.
he was a huge part of my life for three years as were teh musicals he directed and his english classes and drama classes. lord he was schenley. my highschool. sigh. i found out tongiht, i cried and looked at pictures and i said the mourners kaddish for him. he was like a real mr holland's opus online with theatre and english not orchestras. without teh deaf son. he is missed by thousands of students and friends and family i think.
nayways, that said, have a good passover all those jews out there, no cheating now.

HI YALL!! if anyone still reads this anymore...er, anyway
been a rather long time. i have just been busy with work and more work and trying to cope with work related items some more....plus i'm lazy
school has been good except for the fact that mine is no longer to be so i had to get relocated to one of our affiliate schools in dc. this won't start til the end of august though. but it will be a major pain in my butt to commute into teh city every day, it is only about 20 miles but it will take more than an hour. yay traffic and dc driving!
i am also now working as a tutor in this after school supplimental education program. it is kinda weird and i don't know if i like it, but i needed something to help pay the bills this summer and whatnot. the good thing about moving my job to the city is i get a raise...yay!
other big news....we got a dog, her name is daisy. she is a beagle/basset hound mix. she is very loving and affectionite, but has a but of seperation anxiety which we are now working on. she isn't destrucive but she does bark and the first time it happened she peed in the house a lot. wbut we have found that if we put her in the bathroom with toys and her bed and a treat and her food bowl and some items that smell like us and a radio on it will help in the long run. this way she has a safe place for when we are gone. also it is far away from the door so you can't hear teh barking in the hallway..we are in an appartment comples, after all.
she i cute and slowly the cat is getting used to her...although twice noe daisy has been walking by and the cat hisses loudly and scares the dog who could care less if the cat was tehre or not.
in other news, see sicko, it will make you hate maerica more just alike all good michael moore films.
